246 - Varying Form of Title - MARC 21

246 - Varying Form of Title (R) FIELD DEFINITION AND SCOPE Varying forms of the title appearing on different parts of an item or a portion of the title proper, or an alternative form of the title when the form differs substantially from the title statement in field 245 and if they contribute to the further identification of the item. For items including several works but lacking a collective title, field 246 is used only for titles related to the title selected as the title proper, usually the first work named in the chief source of information. Titles related to other works are recorded in field 740 (Added Entry-Uncontrolled Related/Analytical Title) or one of the other 7XX (Added Entry) fields. When displayed/printed as a note, varying forms of titles are usually preceded by an introductory term or phrase that is generated as a display constant based on the second indicator value. RDA Cataloging Examples for Creating Variant Titles for Portion of Title Proper - Best Practices

Image
Watch this video on YouTube on Resource Description & Access (RDA) Channel of RDA Blog For titles proper that contain an alternative title, ensure title access to the complete title proper to the first part of the title proper up-to the word "or" or equivalent in another language that signals an alternative title and to the part following the word "or" or its equivalent in another language. If the title proper contains a part or designation of a part, or both, make a variant title usually for the part when it is judged intelligible enough to be a likely candidate for access. Make a variant title for a portion of a title proper, when it is judged that some user would consider the portion as the title proper.  Follow  RDA Blog  in Social Media:  Google+  |  Facebook  |  Google+ Community  |  Twitter  |  YouTube   |  SlideShare  |  Tumblr   |  WordPress  |  Flipboard ...

Recording of Parallel Title : LC-PCC Best Practices Guidelines

Myth: “A parallel title can only be recorded if it appears on the same source as the title proper.” Reality: No, this is the AACR2 rule.  Under RDA, the parallel title may be recorded without brackets if it appears anywhere within the resource. In RDA a parallel title no longer has to appear on the same source as the title proper to be considered as such. For example, if the romanized title appears on the t.p. verso, it would still be considered a parallel title. [Source : Library of Congress]
