RDA Cataloging Examples  of use of Extended Date Time Format (EDTF) in  MARC 21 field 046 for Special Coded Dates  in  Resource Description and Access  ( RDA ) Name Authority Records   DCM Z1 046 update in Cataloger's Desktop 2015 Issue 3 release Cataloger's Desktop 2015 Issue 3 was released on August 11, 2015. This release includes an important update to DCM Z1 instruction sheet  046 , Special Coded Dates.  LC/NACO catalogers: please note that the formatting of dates in the 046 field has changed. When supplying dates in field 046 , use the Extended Date Time Format (EDTF) schema in all cases except for centuries; supply dates using the pattern yyyy, yyyy-mm, or yyyy-mm-dd; always add subfield $2 edtf except after a century . The more consistent use of $2 edtf is based on a PCCLIST discussion suggestion to simplify the use of $2 (always use except for centuries). Examples: 046 ## $f 1884-10-11$g 1962-11-07...

RDA Toolkit Update, August 11, 2015 - Changes in Resource Description and Access (RDA) and Library of Congress - Program for Cooperative Cataloging Policy Statements (LC-PCC PS) and RDA Toolkit TOPIC 1: Changes in RDA Content TOPIC 2: Change in Content in LC-PCC PSs TOPIC 3: Functional Changes in the RDA Toolkit TOPIC 1: Changes in RDA Content : Fast Track changes The PDF file mentioned in the URL below from RDA JSC site identifies the "Fast Track" changes to RDA that will be included in this release (6JSC-Sec-16.pdf); Fast Track changes are not added to the RDA Update History.  While you are encouraged to peruse the changes, there are no significant changes. RDA RELATIONSHIP DESIGNATORS Library of Congress Implementation of Resource Description and Access Relationship Designators in Bibliographic Records with MARC 21 RDA Cataloging Examples, Guidelines, and Best Practices Key points The training manual is only for relationship designators in  bibliographic  records. The  requirement  for providing relationship designators is only applicable to  creators , whether coded in MARC 1XX or 7XX. Relationship designators for Person-Family-Corporate Body  should not be used in a name/title access point tagged 7XX or 8XX, even if they are creators. If the nature of the relationship cannot be ascertained even at a general level,  do not assign a relationship designator  (if in doubt, leave it out). Other relationship designators are encouraged. RDA Toolkit Update, April 14, 2015  A new release of the RDA Toolkit is published on Tuesday, April 14. This message will cover several points you should be aware of related to the release.  TOPIC 1: Changes in RDA Content TOPIC 2: Change in Content in LC-PCC PSs TOPIC 3: Functional Changes in the RDA Toolkit TOPIC 1: Changes in RDA Content There are two types of changes in the RDA content for this update: 1) the fourth annual major update to RDA based on the decisions made by the Joint Steering Committee for Development of RDA (JSC) at their November 2014 meeting; and 2) “Fast Track” changes that are relatively minor and typical of a release update. Revisions from JSC actions: The changes to individual instructions are identifiable by the “revision history” icon in the RDA Toolkit (a dark blue rectangular icon with the date "2015/04").  A complete listing of all changes due to the proposal process will appear in the left-side table of contents...

A new release of the RDA Toolkit was published on Tuesday, October 14 .  This  message will cover several points you should be aware of related to the release.  TOPIC 1: Changes in RDA Content TOPIC 2: Change in Content in LC-PCC PSs TOPIC 3: Additional Content in the RDA Toolkit TOPIC 1: Changes in RDA Content This update only contains  “Fast Track” changes that are relatively minor (these are not flagged in the RDA text with revision history icons).  The linked file 6JSC-Sec-13.pdf contains a complete listing of the Fast Track changes. You’ll note that many of the changes are to examples, including moving some examples to more appropriate instructions, replacing some examples, and adding initial articles to some preferred and variant titles, etc.—note that the addition of the initial articles are intended to exhibit the base instruction at RDA 6.2.1.7, and that LC/PCC   practice is to  OMIT  initial articles   (per 6.1.2.7,...
